The chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) is considered human’s closest living relative, so much so that some researchers argue it should be renamed as Homo troglodytes, which would put it in the same genus as humans (Homo sapiens). Phylogenetic arguments aside, these magnificent animals have complex societies and behaviors. Scientists have followed and studied these creatures for decades recording their communication, social hierarchy, tool-use, and knowledge of ethnobotany.
